Brian keeps on running for Fisher House

Brian New has done it again! The man dubbed the ‘Endurance King’ has completed the 145 mile Grand Union Canal Race between Birmingham and London.
The run, which took Brian a personal best of 41 hours and 27 minutes, is the latest in a series of endurance races Brian is undertaking to raise funds for Fisher House at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham.
He’s already raised almost £2,000 for the ‘home from home’ where troops can spend time away from the ward with their families, friends and colleagues.
“The weather was horrendous; it was like running in a car wash,” Brian told QEHBC.
“I finished 35th of 53 finishers. There were 97 starters and it was probably the toughest running race I’ve ever done.”
Brian adds: “My support crew of my wife Alison, and friends Rob and Leanne Hall, were fantastic. The finish for me was made even more special by the fact that my 20-year-old son Ben ran the last 15 miles with me.
“We finished in torrential rain and my blisters were so bad that three times I had to stop and “mummify” my feet in zinc oxide tape to stop the rubbing. It was two days before I dare take the tape off and see how bad my feet were!”
Brian’s next events are the (worryingly titled) ‘Hell on the Humber’ and ‘RingOFire’, a 131m run around the coast of Anglesey. Both take place in August.
