Couple say thanks for life-saving treatment

October 25, 2012

A husband and wife team from Wellesbourne have made a donation to QEHB Charity to say thank you for life-saving treatment.

After an accident five years ago, Beryl Pearce received reconstructive surgery to her legs at Selly Oak Hospital. Beryl was knocked down by a refuse collection truck which reversed over her, breaking bones and removing the skin on both her legs. Her left leg was left without skin up to her thigh, whilst her right leg was degloved up to her knee.

As well as the surgery to her legs, Beryl also had to overcome an infection and spent time fighting for her life in the Critical Care Unit. She was an inpatient at Selly Oak Hospital for four months, finally being discharged in March 2008.

Beryl said: “We’ve wanted to say thank you to the hospital for a while. It was our 50th wedding anniversary in September which prompted us to really think about what we could do. My husband Eric and I brought a donation of £530 to the QEHB Charity offices which we want to go towards improving the lives of patients on the wards at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham.

“It’s our way of saying thank you to the medics, especially the army medics, who were absolutely amazing – I owe them my life.”

“The hospital charity provides those added extras that make a huge difference to the lives of military patients and their families. Thank you for your support”
