Lord Mayor’s Appeal donates £18,000 to Fisher House
May 17, 2012
The Lord Mayor of Birmingham, Councillor Anita Ward, visited the Queen Elizabeth Hospital today to meet some of the staff at the Royal Centre for Defence Medicine.
Whilst she was at the hospital, the Lord Mayor also presented the hospital charity with an amazingly generous cheque of £18,000 for Fisher House from the Lord Mayor’s Charity Appeal.
Building work has started on Fisher House, a home away from home for military patients and their families within walking distance of the hospital. Providing 18 large family bedrooms, all with ensuite bathrooms, and lots of communal living space, Fisher House will allow military patients to spend time with their families and friends in a non clinical environment.
Families will be able to stay close to their loved ones for as long as the patients are in hospital, meaning that patients can focus on their own recovery instead of worrying about their families.
The money donated from the Lord Mayor’s Charity Appeal will be used to help kit out the communal living spaces, with children’s toys, comfortable chairs and sofas and even a cinema style living room for patients and families to watch sporting events and movies.

“The hospital charity provides those added extras that make a huge difference to the lives of military patients and their families. Thank you for your support”
