Warwickshire County Cricket Club is continuing to develop its partnership with the Royal Centre for Defence Medicine by staging a charity t20 cricket match at Edgbaston on Saturday 7 July.

The match will be between an Armed Forces Invitation XI and Warwickshire Old Boys XI, and gives members of the Armed Forces the chance to take on former Warwickshire and England cricket greats.

The Pipes and Drums band of the Royal Gurkha Rifles will also be present, and the event coincides with the Edgbaston Beer Festival which takes place at the cricket ground.

It promises to be a great day out with doors opening at 12 noon.

The event is open to the public, with tickets at £5 and they are available to purchase by clicking here.

Members of the Armed Forces, West Midlands Police, Fire, Ambulance or the Queen Elizabeth Hospital get the additional benefit of a “FORCES PASS” for £5 which as well as the match on Saturday also allows entry to Warwickshire’s t20 match on Friday 6 July and Sunday 8 July, making it a real festival of cricket. The match was launched this week at Edgbaston by England batsman Ian Bell, Warwickshire’s Director of Cricket Ashley Giles, and serviceman Corporal Jay Baldwin.

Corporal Baldwin played cricket for Ifield in the Sussex County League and has represented the British Infantry cricket team as an opening batsman and bowler. He has served in the Army for nearly ten years but was injured by an IED blast on 31st January whilst on routine patrol with the Afghan national army in the Nahr-e-Saraj district in Afghanistan.

“The chance for the Armed Forces team to play at a world class venue like Edgbaston is a great opportunity, and one I’m sure they will relish”, Corporal Baldwin said at the launch.

“The care and support I have received from the Royal Centre for Defence Medicine has been fantastic and I’m very grateful to everyone involved in my surgeries and rehabilitation. It’s great that Edgbaston and Warwickshire CCC support them to enable them to continue doing a great job and treating other military personnel.”

The match will raise funds for the Military Patients Fund at the hospital charity, and TroopAid. Both charities provide invaluable support to military patients and their families during and beyond their hospital stay.

Please do come and join us for a wonderful day out at Edgbaston on 7 July
